Austin is the Branch Chief of Branch 3 in the Office of Associate Chief Counsel (Corporate) in Washington, D.C. During his time at Chief Counsel, he has worked on numerous private letter rulings and guidance projects, including regulations relating to section 385, REIT spin-offs, the Opportunity Zone regime, and various cross-border provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. He advised on the corporate tax aspects of Notice 2023-63.
