Speaker Bio
Gil received his B.A. (economics) from the University of Pennsylvania, and law degrees from American University (J.D.) and Georgetown University (LL.M. (taxation)). He joined the Department of Justice’s Tax Division right after law school, and for the last 15 years of his tenure (until he retired in November 2019), he was Chief of the Tax Division’s Appellate Section, overseeing an attorney (and support) staff of approximately 50 persons responsible for all appellate tax litigation in the United States. Gil is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at American University Law School and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he teaches courses in personal, corporate, and partnership tax. Gil has also taught tax courses at George Mason University Law School, the University of Maryland Law School, and the University of Nebraska Law School.
