Shamik N. Trivedi is an Attorney-Advisor in the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Tax Policy (OTP) where he focuses on domestic tax issues, most notably matters pertaining to Opportunity Zones, the Employee Retention Credit, credit monetization, and various alternative energy credits. Shamik’s work in the Treasury Department includes the regulatory implementation of the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, among other legislation.
Prior to joining OTP, Shamik served as a Special Counsel with the Internal Revenue Service in what is now the Litigation and Advisory Division Counsel’s office. In that role, he was responsible for coordinating significant large business cases at all stages of controversy and providing legal advice to the Commissioner of the Large Business & International division. From June 2021 to April 2022, Shamik served as Senior Tax Counsel in the Executive Office of the President.
Prior to his public service, Shamik was a Senior Manager in Grant Thornton LLP’s Washington National Tax Office in Washington, D.C. He began his career as a legal reporter for Tax Analysts. Shamik received his B.B.A. from the George Washington University, his J.D. from the Pace Law School, and his LL.M. from Northwestern Law School. Shamik has been a member of the D.C. Bar since 2010.
