Lisa Helem is an executive editor at Bloomberg Industry Group, where she leads strategic projects aimed at capturing a larger market share of young and diverse lawyer readers. They include: “They’ve Got Next: The 40 Under 40” (Bloomberg Law’s special report honoring leading young lawyers); “Black Lawyers Speak” (an award-winning podcast series exploring the unique stories of Black lawyers); “Why Mentoring Matters” (first-person stories of lawyers who discuss the role mentorship plays in their career trajectory) and “The Black General Counsel Project” (Q&As with most of the Black GCs in the Fortune 1000). Lisa also leads newsroom outreach efforts.

Before joining Bloomberg Industry Group, Lisa was the editor-in-chief of The National Law Journal, the first person of color to be named to the role. There, she grew the audience for the brand and led strategy. She also led publication of the magazine and special reports, such as the NLJ 500 and the Appellate Hot List. Prior to that, she was an associate in the complex commercial litigation group at Vinson & Elkins and served as communications director for two political campaigns. Between graduating from Duke University and the University of Michigan Law School, Lisa wrote for publications including Newsweek and The Philadelphia Inquirer. In 2020, she was named to Lawyers of Color’s Power List of “the most influential attorneys of color.” In 2018, she was named to the Folio 100, a list of innovative media professionals. She is a member of the D.C. Bar.
