Rebecca Thompson is a Senior Advisor for Stakeholder Engagement with the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Program Office at the US Department of the Treasury. In this role, she connects community organizations with Treasury’s priorities to raise awareness and ensure equitable access to the benefits and tax credits made available through the IRA. For the decade prior to her joining the federal government in 2023, she was a non-profit professional working to ensure low-to-moderate income households can access and take advantage of tax credits for which they are eligible, leveraging the benefits derived from the tax code to improve their household financial security.

As a non-profit professional, she held various roles of increasing responsibility, including her most recent role as the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Network Building with Prosperity Now. As an advocate for free tax prep and LMI households, she has testified before the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees on the importance and value of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and served as a member of the IRS Advisory Council from 2022-2023.

On Saturdays during the filing season, Rebecca can be found serving as a VITA Volunteer Site Coordinator in Woodbridge, Virginia. She also volunteers as a head usher and in other capacities at Grace Church in Dumfries, Virginia. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics from Florida A&M University.
